HISTORY & AVAILABLE SERVICES
Herring Brothers Meats is a family owned and operated business. The company was originally started by Charles Herring in the 1920's who processed animals for local family and friends. Eventually, Charles' sons Lorin and Malcolm Herring took over and ran the business for about 40 years. The third generation then became part of the story. Presently, Thomas and Andrea(Mac's daughter) Gilbert and their children(fourth generation) Trey Gilbert and Ellie Patterson own and operate the family business.
We are a USDA slaughterhouse and processing facility located in central Maine. We slaughter and process beef, pork, lambs, goats, and buffalo. At the current time, we service about 95 private label accounts who resale their products. We are MOFGA www.mofga.org certified also. Along with private label accounts we have countless individual accounts that grow animals for their own use. All natural Maine grown beef and pigs are also available for sale from Herring Brothers. Herring Brothers also processes wild game. We have many repeat customers in all aspects of our company.
All animals are cut and packaged to the customers specifications,vacuum sealed, labeled and froze. We have two in house smokehouses allowing us to offer a wide variety of cooked and smoked products. We are now making our own ground sausage in bulk packaging or in casings, (available in 6 flavors, breakfast, sweet, hot, maple ,garlic, & chorizo) nitrate free smoked products, pepperoni, keilbasa, summer sausage, and many more items.
Another large part of Herring Brothers is our retail store. This is our outlet to the general public. Our store offers beef, pork, chicken and a growing number of smoked, cooked meats. We offer Maine meat. Currently we have 6 freezer meat packages.
Herring Brothers is the Home of Wicked Good Beef Jerky, which is a local favorite and has been shipped all over the United States and also overseas.
